New Haven Free Public Library

The Cause

The New Haven Free Public Library is a critical community institution that serves more than 130,000 residents across the City of New Haven with 5 locations, a Readmobile book van and thousands of online and digital resources available 24/7. Each year, the Library welcomes more than 600,000 visitors, hosts 2,300 community programs and provides a place where everyone is welcome.

The Project

Civic Mind is working with the City's Librarian and Director and the New Haven Free Public Library Foundation to expand fundraising efforts. Work included re-structuring annual development operations, strategic planning for FY17 fundraising, the design of a citywide capital campaign to move and expand a library branch, improve the collection, support community services and raise the Library's profile.

Strategic Planning

Civic Mind designed the fundraising plan for FY17, setting goals and solicitation strategy for individual giving, corporate support, grants and special events.

Working with the Library's Foundation, Civic Mind created the plan for a capital campaign to move a library branch into a new community center, and built the communications and community outreach plan to secure $2 million in funding.

Our team completed the FY16 annual fund with more donations and a higher retention rate compared to previous years. Civic Mind managed an online "day of giving event", led the end-of-year reconciliation process and crafted a donor "thank-a-thon" drive.
